《舞蹈》是马蒂斯野兽派风格的代表作。五个裸体人物手拉手围成一圈，在蓝绿色的背景上疯狂地舞蹈。仅用了三种颜色——天蓝（天空）、绿（大地）、朱红（人体）——马蒂斯创造了一种纯粹而原始的生命节奏。人物的造型简化到极致，几乎没有面部细节和阴影，只保留了最本质的动势。圆圈左下方两个人物的手几乎要松开，使画面在平衡中暗含张力。这幅画充满了原始的能量和欢乐，是马蒂斯'安乐椅'艺术理念的完美体现。
